Look for a professional performance resume

Most good violin teachers have, at some point in their careers, done some notable performances. These might include TV performances, theatre or concert performances or travelling overseas to perform. Recordings or touring with artists who are publicly known is a good indicator that a musician has reached a proficient level.

This is important too! There are some absolutely dazzling musicians out there who don’t have an aptitude for teaching. It’s certainly not that they don’t know all about their instruments, it’s just that they don’t communicate this effectively to a musician whose several pay grades below them. In other words, they can’t break down musical concepts into bite size pieces. The end result is that the music student gets confused and perhaps frustrated and may eventually give up altogether. A good violin teacher will generally have some teaching experience in a quality educational music facility.
